Korea, Writing, and Coming Back

Hello everyone, and I'm sorry for the long absence! (I feel like I'm saying that a lot) But this time there is (sort-of) a legitimate excuse. SUMMER STARTED! Here in the States, summer break starts around the beginning of June for me, and as soon as school let out, I planned to read a book a day, write blog posts all the time, and watch a lot of movies.

Until I realized I was almost never home for the next two months or so.

I don't say this very often on this blog, but I am an avid writer.
I love to write stories almost as much as I love to read them, and last year, I applied for a writing camp hosted by the University of Virginia called Young Writer's Workshop. For two weeks, I was surrounded by a constant community of writers from literally all around the world, and I was writing almost 6 to 7 hours a day. It was heavenly. Everything seemed to be inspiration, and the staff and counselors were all writers as well. I would greatly recommend it to any young writer!

After coming back from writing camp, I rested for a precious few days and then my family and I headed off to Seoul, South Korea. It was a 14 hour flight with LOTS of snoring and when I finally landed there, it was a little like meeting a friend you haven't seen in years. Good thing was just when staying in my grandparent's house for the entire day was getting boring, I was rushed off to another camp!

I went to a weeklong camp in Korea specifically for teens of Korean heritage who live overseas. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW IMPORTANT THIS WAS TO ME. I visit Korea quite often, so "discovering Korea" wasn't new to me, but I had never met someone (in real life) from Russia, or Uzbekistan, or Guatemala, or Indonesia, or Finland, or Croatia before. It was incredible. It is a huge world, and I now have such a personal connection to all these countries. (It was so fun to watch the Olympic parade of nations, because I knew people from some of the countries). I have to say, that was the most rewarding experience I have ever had in Korea.

The rest of the time in Korea was filled with lots of family, fun, and FOOD. It was incredibly hot though, and air conditioning is still not super popular there...so yeah. It was rough.

But we got through it and now I AM COOLED AND HAPPY.

And good news is, I am back on the blog! So I'll be seeing you a lot more often!

How has your summer been?

  2. I'm also glad you've had a great summer! The writing camp sounds like a blast, but the hot Korean summer not so much. :/ Do they not have central AC in most homes there? How do they survive!?

I can't imagine writing for 7 hours a day! But then again, I'm not a writer :D Have you finished writing a major project yet? I love when bloggers are legitimate writers too.
