Let's Get Lost Review

Title: Let's Get Lost
Author: Adi Alsaid
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Genre: Contemporary, Realistic Fiction

Blurb: Five strangers. Countless adventures. One epic way to get lost.

Four teens across the country have only one thing in common: a girl named Leila. She crashes into their lives in her absurdly red car at the moment they need someone the most.

Hudson, Bree, Elliot and Sonia find a friend in Leila. And when Leila leaves them, their lives are forever changed. But it is during Leila's own 4,268-mile journey that she discovers the most important truth—sometimes, what you need most is right where you started. And maybe the only way to find what you're looking for is to get lost along the way.

Me: Wait...what is the big deal with this book?

The Ups: It was easy to read, and I enjoyed the light, breezy feeling of the novel. I finished the entire thing in two days (a rarity for me now days) and I don't think I necessarily regretted those two days. The road trip feeling was very much alive, and as a person who loves to travel, I thought it was fascinating how one person can touch so many lives and then just disappear.

The Downs: But I didn't see any point to this book. First of all, the characters. When I heard this book had instalove, I did not know that meant instalove from the SECOND page.
So I tried to be optimistic and think that maybe it would get better. Well, it didn't get worse...but definitely not better. Hudson is not interesting. Sorry Leila, I don't see it. Mostly because of the fact that the little time we got to spend with him, all he thought about was YOU. He had no real character development, and when it was about to get interesting with the interview and the parents, of course Leila left and the story ended.

Everyone else was not bad, character-wise. But honestly, does everything have to play out so Elliot-like? Every single character's story ended in the perfect ending. The only bittersweetness was the fact that they had to say goodbye to Leila. And these people had it pretty hard too. There could have been a lot of very interesting moments if life hadn't been so perfect for them.

And Leila. I thought we would get to know her a bit better. Why was she so nice? Why did she care about other people so much? But instead, we get this not-very-shocking-reveal about her, and then a YAYY let's go home! YAYyyy, but where's the interesting protagonist I'd hoped for?

The important thing is this book ended, and I felt basically nothing. My emotions did not fluctuate in the slightest while reading this book. Unfortunate :(

Rating: 2 kisses!
Have you read Let's Get Lost? What did you think?

  1. Awww I'm so sorry you didn't like this one! I read it in the summertime, and I thought that it was very easy to read and fluffy. I didn't really pay much attention to the emotion of it, more of just the fluffiness. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for!
