My Quote Wall (Favorites Explained)

Welcome to a different type of post today! I pondered whether to call this a DIY, but decided on it being too easy and just wanted to share it with you instead. I love books, and incorporating bookish things into daily routines of my life makes everything more vibrant and exciting for me. Quotes are one of my favorite aspects of reading so many books- I feel like there is one that fits what I need to hear in every situation.

Unfortunately, my walls are not covered in wallpaper...they are just plaster. Makes them pretty difficult to write all over. So I found a huge roll of butcher paper in the house and stuck it up on the back of my bedroom door. It has become my quote wall.
(Wow, what photography skills. That angle. That filter.)

Basically, a tin of sharpies lives near my door now and I have started to carry around stick notes to make sure I remember my favorite quotes in books I'm reading at the time. I'm hoping that I can find at least one from every book I read, and you can expect to start seeing my chosen quote featured on my reviews! YAY!

Here are some of my all-time favorites (some famous, some not) that have been written on the wall.

"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me...I am a free human being with an independent will."- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
IS THIS NOT SO BEAUTIFUL. Mind you, this book was published in England in 1841. Jane is the original feminist. She is the original depiction of true strength, loyalty, and righteousness in a woman. She shows the world that being plain, being ignored, and starting from a lower standing does not hinder one's ability to do what they want. My favorite :)

"I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness, I want sin...I'm claiming the right to be unhappy." - Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The first time I read this sentence, or this entire conversation, I was mindblown. It was the first time I realized that equality, comfort, and true freedom could not coexist with happiness truly and wholly. It is in the weighing of those values that changes the way the world is governed. It is so important to read this book.

"She looked like art, and art wasn't supposed to look nice; It was supposed to make you feel something."- Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
AHHH. The oh-so-famous quote that describes Eleanor perfectly. And I have thought of this quote a multitude of times when I met people with intriguing, fascinatingly imperfect appearances. It makes them all the more interesting.

"It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to than I have ever known."- A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
I can't spoil it, as much as I would like to, but this quote just hit me so hard. How could a person feel so worthless and be filled with such self-contempt? It seems to be the worst type of hatred- hatred for yourself. It just reminds me of the torment that brings and how sorrowful it is to experience.

"And if the distress be not poignant enough to keep the eyes unclosed, they will be sure to open to sensations of softened pain and brighter hope." - Emma by Jane Austen
A very deep, meaningful quote from its context in the book yet I love the wording and the hope behind it. A quote I have looked to often recently for comfort :)

I hope you enjoyed that! The wall still has much more to grow, but I hope you will join in and display your favorite quotes as well. If you already do, send me a picture or tell me some of your favorite quotes in the comments!

Thanks, as always!

  2. This is so cool! I love that you've written them on your door! Usually when I find a quote I love, I just type it up in my notes app on my phone. My favorite quote is "Life is a book, and there are a thousand pages I have not read" (Cassandra Clare), which I used as my senior yearbook quote!
